To celebrate our 134th anniversary, GBU Life launched the Birthday Bash initiative, calling upon the GBU Life community to honor our fraternal legacy through service. GBU Life invited members, producers, and community leaders to assemble and deliver shelf-stable cake kits for individuals and families who may otherwise go without a birthday celebration. What can seem like a simple act of service could be the spark of hope someone needed.

GBU Life community members were able to participate by:

Hosting or Attending a Birthday Bash Event

Here members and leaders came together in celebration to assemble cake kits. Completed kits were delivered to a correlating organization selected by the host such as food banks, senior care centers, etc.

Participating in a Collection Point

GBU Life producers and community leaders could host a collection point in their places of business where members who independently assembled cake kits could drop off their packed goods to then be donated.

Sponsor a Cake Kit

We understand times can get busy! For those who

wanted to support this initiative but struggled dedicating

time, there was the Sponsor a Cake Kit option. Here

members, producers, and community leaders could

support this initiative through a monetary donation.

GBU Life participated in this initiative by hosting our own Birthday Bash events here at the home office. On April  13, GBU Life’s official birthday, employees came together in celebration and service to assemble 500 cake kits. Then on May 13, local GBU Life producers visited the home office and assembled an additional 300 cake kits. Overall, the home office was able to donate 800 assembled cake kits to local Pittsburgh organization Beverly’s Birthdays. Beverly’s Birthdays works to ensure all of life’s special moments can be celebrated. From birthdays to baby showers, Beverly’s works directly with local families to support them in these milestone moments.

After collecting and celebrating through April to end of June, the GBU Life community was able to collect 2,601 cake kits! Surpassing our goal of 1,892, these cake kits were able to be donated to a variety of food banks and care facilities across the country. GBU Life cannot thank you all enough for rallying behind this effort and making our Birthday wish a reality.

Special thanks to agent Tracie Hulbert for collecting 369 cake kits and winning our Collection Point Contest. As the winner of this contest, GBU Life donated $1,000 to Tracie's selected 501(c)(3) organization Marcy's Project.
