GBU Foundation: 63 Years of Making a Difference in Our Communities
About the GBU Foundation
The GBU Foundation, established by GBU Life in 1963 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, empowers donors to turn generosity into meaningful community impact. For more than six decades, the shared spirit of giving from GBU Life members, donors, and partners has fueled scholarships and community grants that strengthen lives and communities across the country. The GBU Foundation is proud to have earned a 95% four-star rating from Charity Navigator and a 2026 Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid.
Our scholarship funding and community grants align with GBU Life’s four Community Pillars — Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving and Hometown Hero Support. Every contribution — large or small — opens doors for students, strengthens nonprofits, and uplifts the causes that matter most to our members.
The GBU Foundation is proud to support members as they pursue their educational goals. Since its founding, the Foundation has awarded 4,500 scholarships and educational grants totaling more than $3.2 million. In 2025, 215 members received $226,000 to support their two‑year, four‑year, and graduate studies.
Since 2024, the Foundation’s Community Grant Awards program has provided $257,500 to 67 member‑nominated organizations, all of which are backed by thousands of supporters who believe in the power of local action to achieve real-world results in their communities.
In addition to the Community Grant Awards, the GBU
Foundation also recognizes Corporate Sponsored Grants — charitable organizations nominated for grants by corporate sponsors as well as GBU Life producers and agents. These grants spotlight nonprofits selected by partners who witness their community impact firsthand and honor those organizations that exemplify our shared values. We are proud to celebrate both these recipients and the partners who champion their work.
