District 684 has a rich history of both struggles and success. Founded in June 1926 with 77 members, the district’s slogan was, “The top is not too high for us to climb”, a sentiment that remains true today.

Over the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of watching District 684 evolve while staying deeply rooted in tradition. The children who once attended the annual holiday brunch at South Hills Country Club now return with families of their own, while the grandparents who helped establish the event look on with pride. Simple gatherings became meaningful, multi-generational traditions that connect the past to the present.

The district has also found new ways to engage and give back. A TopGolf fundraiser that started as a creative way to support a local cause has grown into a signature first-quarter event for members. Last year, following the loss of District Secretary Jackie Alaimo, the event took on an even deeper meaning, supporting an educational fund in her name. Jackie played a vital role in sustaining the district, stepping in after longtime secretary Barb Stoker retired from the officer board in 2022.

Barb dedicated many years to the district alongside her husband Jim Stoker. They helped revive District 684 after a period of inactivity. These efforts helped to support the continued growth we see today by Jackie and many other dedicated GBU Life employees, both current and retired.

In just the past six years, District 684 has supported a wide range of organizations through donations, volunteer work, and sponsorships. These include Baldwin Community U.M.C., Lord’s Food Pantry, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Drop the Puck on Cancer, South Hills Pet Rescue, Tunnels to Towers, MADD, GBU Foundation, Wreaths Across America, Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Brentwood High School, South Park Rangers, Brentwood Meals on Wheels, and The Education Partnership.

Considering this impact alone, it’s incredible to imagine all the district has accomplished over its 100-year history.

For 100 years, District 699 of Frankenmuth, Michigan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fraternalism, volunteerism, and community service. Throughout the Frankenmuth and Saginaw communities, the district has built meaningful partnerships and lasting relationships with organizations that make a difference in the lives of others. Their support of organizations such as the Hope Project, One Week One Street, Mustard Seed Women’s Shelter, Frankenmuth Little Angels, Crossroads Counseling, and Undercover Angels Animal Rescue of Saginaw reflects their deep commitment to serving both people and the broader community.

District 699 continues to create opportunities for members to stay actively engaged through volunteer efforts, charitable initiatives, and social events that strengthen friendships and foster a true sense of belonging. Their dedication to helping others is matched by the strong bonds shared among members, creating a close-knit district rooted in compassion, generosity, and fellowship.

In recognition of their outstanding efforts, District 699 was honored as District of the Year at the 2025 GBU Life District Forum, a well-deserved achievement that highlights the impact they continue to make year after year.

Over the past four years, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the passion and care District 699 shows toward its members and the communities it serves. Their belief in the power of giving and their dedication to uplifting others truly sets them apart.

Congratulations to District 699 on reaching this remarkable 100-year milestone. Your dedication, leadership, and enduring commitment to fraternalism continue to inspire and strengthen the community around you.
