The 2026 GBU Foundation Community Grant Awards

August 21, 2026

Strengthening Communities,
Building Legacies

There are people who give, people who serve,  and people whose lives are changed because of both. All were represented at the GBU Foundation Community Grant Awards event on April 9, 2026.

Held at the South Hills Country Club in Pittsburgh and hosted by Barry Pintar, Anchor at KDKA TV (CBS Pittsburgh), the evening brought together donors, nonprofit leaders, community partners, and colleagues, all there for the shared sense of purpose and an understanding that meaningful change is built collectively, over time.

From One Day of Giving to Yearlong Impact

The journey to Awards Night started months earlier on October 23, 2025, during the GBU Foundation’s Day of Giving — held each year to mark the Foundation’s founding. What happens in a single day doesn’t stay contained there; it becomes something much larger. Contributions made by members, donors, sponsors, GBU Foundation Board, GBU Life  management  and employees set in motion a year of giving that ultimately supports nonprofits doing critical work every day.

Through GBU Life member and GBU Foundation donor nominations and thousands of public votes, organizations across the country were lifted up — each one reflecting a cause that mattered enough for someone to take action. With continued support from donors and sponsors—and matching funds from GBU Life—this generosity resulted in $100,000 awarded this year.

More than the numbers, it’s what it represents: trust in the work these organizations do and outward support from the communities they serve.

Recognizing Work That Happens Every Day

Recipients were recognized across each category of GBU Life’s four Community Pillars — Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving, and Hometown Hero Support.

The variety of organizations from around the nation that have helped contribute to the Community Grant Awards is a testament to our members’ and donors’ belief in the ethos of giving back and paying it forward.

This is work that often happens quietly, without recognition. The Awards Night offered a moment to pause and acknowledge it — and to say thank you.

The GBU Life Scholarship Awards support students in college, trade programs, non-college programs, and graduate school, helping them achieve their dreams, setting them on a career path and realizing life goals. Since its founding, the GBU Foundation has awarded 4,500 scholarships and educational grants totaling more than $3.2 million. In 2025, 215 members received $226,000 to support their two‑year, four‑year and graduate studies. Here’s a look at where the rubber meets the road — as we check in on past grantees to see how their scholarship awards have helped them stay on course, where they are now, and where they hope to be in the future.

To celebrate our 134th anniversary, GBU Life launched the Birthday Bash initiative, calling upon the GBU Life community to honor our fraternal legacy through service. GBU Life invited members, producers, and community leaders to assemble and deliver shelf-stable cake kits for individuals and families who may otherwise go without a birthday celebration. What can seem like a simple act of service could be the spark of hope someone needed.
