Protect Yourself from Scams

November 20, 2025

Your security and peace of mind are important to GBU Life. As scams continue to become more sophisticated, we want to ensure that you have the knowledge and tools needed to protect your personal information. Here are a few key reminders to help you stay safe and recognize legitimate communications from us.

How GBU Life Contacts Members

GBU Life may contact you through a variety of official channels, including the following:

  • Phone calls from 1-800-765-4428
  • Emails from claims@gbu.org, memberbenefits@gbu.org, newbusiness@gbu.org, sales@gbu.org and service@gbu.org
  • Faxes from 412-884-9815
  • Official letters including those we send directly and those generated by approved third-party vendors

GBU Life will not initiate account servicing or marketing via text. If you receive a text claiming to be from us, do not respond or click any links.

If you prefer written communication, please send mail only to the following authorized addresses:

  • Headquarters and overnight mail: 4254 Saw Mill Run Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15227
  • For payments: P.O. Box 645949, Pittsburgh, PA 15264

We will never request personal information or payments be sent to any other address. While it is rare, fraudulent letters requesting information or funds can occur. If you ever have doubts about a mailing, please contact us directly.

What We Will Never Do

To help you recognize red flags, please note the following:

  • We will never ask for your credit card number, gift card payments or immediate payments over the phone.
  • We will never ask for your full Social Security number (or even the last four digits) in an unsolicited communication. Please be advised that your Social Security number will only be requested when you initiate contact with GBU Life.
  • We will never request your password.
  • We do not initiate contact via text for personal or account information.

Staying Safe on the Phone

While our sales or service team may occasionally contact you by phone, this typically only occurs in connection with an action you initiated, such as a beneficiary change or a withdrawal request. We will not call you out of the blue to "validate" your identity. Please note that phone numbers can be spoofed. In the event that you receive a call from someone stating that they’re from GBU Life,

we strongly encourage you to hang up and call us back at our official number:

1-800-765-4428. Always go through our automated call tree to ensure you’re speaking with a verified representative.

When you initiate a call with GBU Life, our customer service team will ask a few questions to verify your identity before discussing any account details. This is for your protection and to ensure your information stays secure.

Protecting Your Information on Social Media

When communicating via social media direct message, we will only request an email address for further communication. We kindly remind you not to share or post any personal or account information in comments or direct messages on social media.

Taking Action

If you ever suspect that your personal information has been compromised, please contact us directly before taking any action. For added protection, we can help you establish a security passphrase on your account.

Communications from Agents

Please note that an agent you already have an existing relationship with may reach out to you via text message. However, text communication is uncommon and typically only occurs if you've previously been in contact with that agent. You should verify the number sending the text message before responding.

There may be situations where an agent calls and asks for the last four digits of your Social Security number, but this would only happen in direct response to a request or inquiry you've initiated. If you're ever unsure whether an agent is legitimate, please call our office directly to verify before sharing any information.

Staying informed is your best defense. We encourage you to remain cautious when handling unsolicited communications and to reach out with any concerns.
