A Toolkit to Make it Through Summer's Hottest Days

Although most of us are completely thrilled to have the never-ending blustery winter and dreary spring of 2021 behind us, it only takes a few humid, sticky days to start to wonder why you were in such a hurry for summer after all. Here is a toolkit for those of us who don't have a sparkling pool or a beach vacation planned ... because we deserve an enjoyable summer too.

Splashpad, Sprinkler or Slip N Slide:

The beauty of the 3 s's is that once you connect them to your outdoor water source, they provide hours of entertainment without having to refill. These water activities are very easy solutions to keep your kiddos cool and entertained during summer's hottest days. And if you don't mind a little splash, they can be great for adults too. Just pop open a lounge chair and crack a cold one because if you aren't going on vacation, you deserve a stay-cation.

Frozen Fruit Kabobs:

What screams summer more than a kabob? Add frozen fruit to the beginning of that and you have the perfect summer beat-the-heat treat. Simply add your favorite fruit to a kabob stick and drizzle with chocolate, strawberry or caramel syrup. Pop them in the freezer for an hour and you are ready to go!

A Day Trip to the Lake:

Check the weather forecast and pick a day that calls for blue skies, high temperatures and sunshine. Fill your cooler to the brim with beverages, sandwiches and snacks, and throw the lawn chairs in the trunk. Why not bring the shade tent while you're at it? This is a full-day excursion so you might as well have everything you need to make the lake "home" for the day.

Swap the Oven for the Grill:

Instead of heating up your house with a dinner that requires your oven, pick your favorite, mouthwatering recipes for the grill and have some friends over for dinner outside.

Every child can name a teacher who made a difference: the one who stayed late to help, offered encouragement at just the right moment or made learning feel exciting. Recognizing a teacher’s dedication doesn’t require grand gestures, but it does call for intention. Thoughtful appreciation gifts, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week or year-end celebrations, offer a tangible way to express heartfelt gratitude.
