The Military Community Support Project, an organization that works with Operation Troop Appreciation to enhance its efforts, hosted a Military Appreciation Day at Pittsburgh’s award-winning amusement park Kennywood Park. Military members and their families enjoyed discounted tickets, food, crafts and all of the fun that Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh has to offer. GBU was proud to sponsor this event and to provide free ice cream and craft supplies for the kids. My kids are huge fans of Kennywood and enjoyed spending the day there riding rides and meeting some of our local military heroes. Here my children debate if they are brave enough for this tiny Ferris wheel.
After a couple of years of not being able to get together, it was great to be able to host some producer seminars again! We were able to host two this year, one in Pittsburgh and one in Milwaukee. I had the great pleasure of being able to speak on our fraternal mission and programs at the Milwaukee seminar. The program’s keynote speaker, Joe Jordan, brought home the importance of what our agents do everyday to help protect their clients and their families with life insurance and annuity products. Pictured below are Joe Jordan, GBU CMO Lesley Mann and RSM Pamela McCloskey.
August 4 was a busy day at GBU as many employees and some members participated in a volunteer day at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. We all worked together on an assembly line to pack 1,500 boxes of canned goods that would go to families in need. After our hard work was finished, the team took a tour of the recently remodeled food bank to see an overview of how large quantities of food are received, organized and distributed to those who need it.
For the second part of my day, I participated with several other GBU employees in a Pickleball clinic. The clinic was held as part of GBU’s sponsorship of the Gamma Classic Pickleball Tournament which benefited the Parkinson’s Foundation. Researchers have found that participating in sports such as pickleball helped to improve the symptoms of many Parkinson’s patients, even after the sports session was complete. GBU is proud to be able to support the important research that is being done by the Parkinson’s Foundation while learning a new sport. Who knows, you may just see a GBU team in next year’s Gamma Classic.
