Spring Gardening Tips

April 12, 2021

Spring is here! With the new season in bloom, it’s the perfect time to start a new activity. Gardening is a great hobby that is both fun and good for your health. If you’re new to gardening, here is a list of tips that will help you get started:

LOCATION IS IMPORTANT!

Make sure that you choose a spot where your plants will get adequate sunlight. Most flowers and vegetables do best with 6-8 hours of sunlight a day. Pick a flat location and one that will not be affected by too much wind. Also, an ideal spot is one where you can easily see your beautiful flowers and garden growing! If you look at it daily, you are much more likely to enjoy it, and tend to it!

POT YOUR PLANTS

Pot your plants if you are unable to find a good location. Be sure to choose a pot or container that is big enough to accommodate the plant and its roots as it grows.

TEST THE DIRT

You want to make sure the location that you choose has adequate soil. You can do this by digging a hole about a foot deep and seeing what is there. Pour some water into the hole and see if it drains quickly or sits for a while.

COMPOST

Add compost to improve the quality of your soil. After you add the compost, make sure to mix it in with the established soil.

WATER YOUR PLANTS!

Make sure to water new seedlings daily, as they will soak up a lot of water. Once they become bigger and stronger, they will not require as much water.

MULCH

Adding mulch will help your plants. This will prevent weeds from growing as well as prevent water loss through evaporation.

Every child can name a teacher who made a difference: the one who stayed late to help, offered encouragement at just the right moment or made learning feel exciting. Recognizing a teacher’s dedication doesn’t require grand gestures, but it does call for intention. Thoughtful appreciation gifts, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week or year-end celebrations, offer a tangible way to express heartfelt gratitude.
