Summer Tour!

This year we are finally bouncing back after COVID and were happy to be able to have three large member meetups at the Pittsburgh Zoo, Milwaukee German Fest and the Toledo German-American Festival.

GBU Community Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo

GBU Community Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo returned for a second year in 2022. GBU members enjoyed all that the zoo had to offer, plus free face painting and airbrush tattoos, a character meet & greet, animal encounters and live music in the zoo's spacious Garden Tent. A storm blew through in the late afternoon causing us to end a bit early, but everyone enjoyed a fun day getting together with fellow GBU members.

GBU Member Meetup at the Milwaukee German Fest

It was a beautiful day on Lake Michigan for the Milwaukee German Fest! Members were treated to "Mader Bucks," which allowed them to enjoy a meal at Mader's, a favorite German restaurant with locations throughout the festival. We also had our GBU prize wheel with fun giveaways for both adults and kids. It was so nice to be able to meet our members from the Milwaukee area and enjoy the beautiful city.

GBU Member Meetup at the Toledo German-American Festival

The Toledo German-American Festival is one of Toledo's oldest and largest ethnic festivals. It is hosted by several German heritage societies in the Toledo area, including GBU District 510.

We had a wonderful time meeting with members in person at the GBU Tent and handing out fun GBU prizes from the prize wheels. We even signed up a few new members during the Festival. From carnival rides, to dancing, music and delicious food, there was something at the Toledo German-American Festival for everyone.

Every child can name a teacher who made a difference: the one who stayed late to help, offered encouragement at just the right moment or made learning feel exciting. Recognizing a teacher’s dedication doesn’t require grand gestures, but it does call for intention. Thoughtful appreciation gifts, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week or year-end celebrations, offer a tangible way to express heartfelt gratitude.
