How to Use Hashtags
August 30, 2021
Are you curious about the purpose of hashtags? We've compiled a summary of tips, including how to use hashtags, how they work and why you'd add them to your social media routine.
A hashtag is similar to a mark or tag that helps indicate content related to a particular topic. Visually, hashtags begin with the pound symbol and are followed by a word, saying or phrase.
Hashtags are included in the copy of a social media post; they facilitate engagement and make your post detectable by others. When people look for specific topics or keywords on social media, posts containing those specific hashtags populate within the search. Additionally, when you click on a hashtag, other posts utilizing that hashtag will appear, making it easy to find similar content.
Let's discuss incorporating the #LIAM21 and #GetLifeInsurance hashtags for September's Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM). Determine the graphic and content for your post. We'll use the image and copy below as our example. If you need content for your posts, we've created GBU-branded graphics for use on your social platforms, featuring our Select Choice Term insurance (click here to access) and Secure Life permanent insurance (click here to access). Plus, you can utilize GBU's life insurance support materials.

Things to remember about hashtags:
- Less is more. Consider limiting the number of hashtags in your post. Your content will look like spam if you use an excessive amount.
- Do not include punctuation, spaces or symbols in your hashtag.
- Hashtags in your post are only viewable by your connections unless your profile's setting is public.

Every child can name a teacher who made a difference: the one who stayed late to help, offered encouragement at just the right moment or made learning feel exciting. Recognizing a teacher’s dedication doesn’t require grand gestures, but it does call for intention. Thoughtful appreciation gifts, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week or year-end celebrations, offer a tangible way to express heartfelt gratitude.
