GBU members in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, recently took advantage of the GBU Members in Action program by raising funds for an organization that means a whole lot to their local community: the Johnstown Area Heritage Association (JAHA). The Johnstown Area Heritage Association is a non-profit, member-based organization that preserves and presents Johnstown's nationally significant stories to the nation.
Member Thomas Leslie recently coordinated with a group of four other GBU members—Barb Fortunato, Donald E. Costlow, Abigail Fisher and Devin Fisher—to all submit Members in Action fundraising applications. The Members in Action program allows members to raise funds in their local community for a selected organization, and in turn GBU matches funds raised up to $1,000 per member applicant. With all five members submitting applications and raising funds for JAHA, GBU matched a total of $5,000!
Where is that money going, you ask? Well, let's just say it's giving them a real "lift"! The Johnstown Area Heritage Association has been working diligently since early 2020 to raise funds to refurbish its elevator, a project that will be costing them approximately $90,000!
